IT'S ALL ENERGY

This is Patsy Wynne inviting you to share the next hour with me... enjoying my choice of music... which sometimes surprises me... and always delights... HELLO to whoever’s listening in hospital... and to those who may be listening online... WELCOME to you too!
Today I’m thinking about ENERGY... and what it means... in between the music... which I hope will give you food for thought... make you smile... and most of all lift your spirits.  And I’m doing requests today... from friends and family... and anyone else... which will make a change from my choice of music... and the first one’s for Cathy... who is a ray of sunshine...

I’ve not seen Oprah Winfrey’s show on TV for some time... but I believe that as 17.6 million people watched Oprah’s final show in the US... the main topic of her show was…  “It’s all ENERGY!”    She said... “You are responsible for the energy that you create for yourself, and you are responsible for the energy that you bring to others.  Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.’”  WOW!  That’s one amazing woman...  and this is for Julie...

Hello to Sarah who’s joined us... so Sarah... what do you know about ENERGY? 
Of course... you know that you have to pay for the energy to heat your home... electric and gas... nuclear energy... and you’re aware of your own energy... how energetic you feel when you wake up in the morning... or not... whether you have the energy to go out and party at night... or visit your in-laws at the weekend... and especially when you’re sick... or getting older... when you feel your energy is lacking... draining away.   
And then there’s the energy we get from the food we eat... do you have more energy after a meal? Or do you feel tired and sluggish? And could that have something to do with the kind of food you eat?  Or even... the timing of your meals?  We all know how it feels after a large Celebration dinner... like at Xmas... you just have to relax and give it time to digest... before anyone can move. But anyone can learn to eat the right foods for maximum energy... and at the right time... like... eating more in the first half of the day and very little at night... much better for the digestion.  Food is energy... and healthy eating is the most important way to keep your energy high. You may have heard of the macrobiotic diet... that’s very healthy... and here’s a request for Phil... who always eats that way...

Oprah said... “You are responsible for the energy that you create for yourself, and you are responsible for the energy that you bring to others.  Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.’”  So what did Oprah mean by that?  What’s this energy she’s talking about?  Well... ever since Einstein formulated his... E= mc2... that is... energy equals matter... matter is energy...  scientists have been discovering just how true this is... that we are all energy... from the rock of the mountains to the waters of the sea... from the smallest plant life to the largest mammal on the planet... not forgetting us humans... all of us... WE ARE ALL ENERGY... which makes us all one... linked in a matrix of energy. This one is Sarah’s choice...

Some medical doctors are now saying...  “The Next Big Frontier in Medicine is Energy Medicine.”  So what does that mean?  Well... It means addressing your life at the most basic, most quantum, most powerful level.  It means understanding your personal energy at levels you may have never thought about.  It means healing yourself from the Inside Out... dealing with the source of your dis-comfort and dis-ease... the chronic anxiety... allergies... addictions... that have a root cause in the past... from childhood... and maybe even further back... to ancestral family patterns... ways of thinking and behaviour... going through generations... it’s like a detective story...
And the next request is for Mark... who’s chosen this because of the way it tells a story... and this story reminds him of certain experiences in his life...

I mentioned that “The Next Big Frontier in Medicine is Energy Medicine.”... and you may have heard me talk about EFT before... which comes under that heading... as it works on the Meridian Energy system of the body as understood by Chinese medicine for thousands of years.  Emotional Freedom Techniques is a tapping routine... on acu-points... which you can use to reduce any emotional disturbance... whenever you feel fearful... panicky... or sick... or even in pain...  If you’d like to follow along with me...  
  • First identify what you’re feeling... if you’re ill... tired... or anxious... feel into your body and locate the core feeling... what do you feel... and where do you feel it in your body?
  • Maybe it’s a headache... or a heavy feeling in your chest... or a sick feeling in your stomach... or your legs keep moving when you’re trying to relax... whatever it is...
  • Start tapping the Karate Chop Point... the outer edge of one hand below the little finger... with the fingertips of the other hand... taking a few deep breaths... while focussing on what you’re feeling...
  • Take a deep breath ... then say out loud...
  •  Even though I’m feeling... sick and tired...  (Whatever it is...)
  • I completely love and accept myself anyway...
  • Even though I’m feeling ... anxious in my stomach...  (Whatever it is...)
  • I accept this feeling... I’m doing the best I can...
  • I forgive myself for anything I may have done to contribute to this...............
  • WRISTS... inside wrists together... I accept this feeling of...
  • Back of hand, below the 3rd ring finger... I accept this feeling of...  
  • TOP OF HEAD... this feeling... maybe I could just let it go...
  • Collarbone... Chest... (take a long deep breath)... I can decide to take responsibility for my feelings... accept my life... just as it is... I can choose to appreciate all the good things in my life... and focus on all that I love... and those who love me... I fill my heart with all that love... until it overflows into all the cells of my body... and makes my whole body feel good...
  • Keep breathing while you’re tapping your chest... until you feel loving energy moving through your body... and give thanks for this energy...
There’s more to it than this of course... and you may need help... because when you start a dialogue with yourself like this... it can lead to new a understanding... about yourself and your life.  When you start to examine your motivations and expectations... and talk them through... you might be surprised at where they came from. Because some of your beliefs and ideals... may not be yours... but ideas you picked up along the way from others.  But when you do this simple exercise regularly... the more you do this, the better you feel about yourself and the easier it is to accept, love and forgive yourself... and others... just try it and see...

Now, if we’re all connected... in a matrix of energy... it follows that whatever we do.. however we behave... doesn’t just affect our closest family and friends... but has a knock-on effect... on our community... school, college... where we work... which impacts on the society we live in... and spirals out into the world.  Which means that ultimately, we... each of us individually... are responsible for the state of the world... and that’s something to think about...   and this is another request for Llawen... maybe she wasn’t happy with the first choice...

The best way to feel good about life... is to cultivate an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE.  You know... Count Your Blessings...

What it all comes down to... is that my attitude has an energy... that affects you... either makes you feel good... or gives you a bad feeling... that you then pass on to others through your attitude. And for all those who exude the energy of love and joy... there are many who spread doom and gloom... fear and doubt... distrust and hate... which contaminate the world like a plague.  So watch your attitude... and keep your energy bright... with the flame of Trust and Love... for the sake of humanity...

We all know those who think the world owes them a living... and many who will not take responsibility for their own lives... but moan and groan about how bad their lives are... while others who’s circumstances may be just as bad... who do take responsibility and get on with life. That’s all part of the world’s energy!  I’d like to re-phrase the words of John F Kennedy... “Ask, not what the world can do for you... but what you can do for the World.”  Now that’s inspired... that’s energetic... that kind of attitude can motivate us all to heal the world... if we all keep spreading that thought...

WHAT is MAGIC?

#1        Harry Potter theme... John Williams 
The new Harry Potter film comes out on Friday at our local cinema...which is showing the previous 7 movies over 7 days, starting last Friday and I'm getting to see them all again in sequence. I do realise that over the past 10 years my sight was deteriorating, so I really am seeing them afresh, but I'm delighted at how much I'm enjoying them. J K Rowling is such an imaginative writer... drawing on many sources... from myths and legends... and fairy stories.

What is MAGIC... what does it mean to you?  Is it just fantasy... or does it have some real meaning?

Do you know The Secret? Are you aware of the Law Of Attraction?  We attract what’s on our mind... it’s what we habitually say to ourselves... like... “Oh you’re so stupid”... “Are you crazy or what?”... “You’re going to blow it.”  And surprise, surprise... it happens... it’s a self-fulfilling prophesy.  What do you say?
But imagine how your life would be if you changed your tune... if you started to say to yourself... (like Muhammed Ali, the boxer who used to be Cassius Clay) “I am the greatest... I float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” ... and if you were to constantly tell yourself... “I achieve anything I set my mind to” ...  that’s how you do magic...

Imagination is so powerful... and greatly underrated by most people. Children especially have great imagination... and it’s a terrible thing for anyone to ridicule a child for their ‘stories’ or even worse... tell them they’re lying.  Because Imagination is a gift... and there are better ways of channelling a child’s stories... into writing... drawing and painting... as a way of expressing themselves. I think the best thing parents can do for their children is to read them bedtime stories... because its through stories that we begin to make sense of the world and anyone can read stories. I know my children value that time we had together... although I didn't make up stories for them... which is the gift of imagination...

#6        That Old Black Magic... Sinatra
I really like the way J K Rowling incorporates psychological concepts into her stories... the young wizards are taught ‘spells’ to protect themselves... which are real techniques used by therapists to change one’s perception. For example... they learn how to change their FEAR into something RIDICULUS... and you can do that.  As an example... think of some small fear... and as you start to feel it... get a picture of something to represent it. Maybe you see something like a spider... or a person... whatever it is... see it clearly as if you’re looking at a TV screen... and NOW... turn it into something comical... maybe a cartoon or Disney character... and as you watch it change... notice how your feeling about it changes...

#7        Puff The Magic Dragon... Peter, Paul & Mary 
I use techniques with clients that would no doubt have had me burned as a witch a few hundred years ago.  And one technique that works like magic is EFT... Emotional Freedom Techniques. This involves tapping on acupuncture points... that helps reduce any emotional state... such as sadness... anxiety... fear... and even pain... because it gets you to focus your attention on the part of the body where you feel it.. which we don’t always notice. Just doing the tapping helps balance the emotional energy systems of the body... so if you’d like to follow along with me...
  • First identify what you’re feeling... maybe some fear or anxiety... especially when you’re in hospital... away from home. So just notice where you feel it... in your body...
  • Maybe it’s giving you a headache... a sore throat... an uneasy feeling in your chest... or a sick feeling in your stomach... whatever it is...

·         When you do this simple exercise regularly... you begin to feel easier...  and the more you do this, the better you feel about yourself and the easier it is to accept, love and forgive yourself... and others... just try it and see...
Now a great ‘spell’ Harry Potter learns is to protect him from evil forces... the PATRONUS.  So by projecting his most happy memory... so strongly that the FEELING generates a protective force field... to keep any negative energy harming him.  Anyone can learn to do that for themselves...  so just relax... if you can... and follow along...

·         Whenever you’re feeling anxious... or fearful... you can use the Patronus spell for yourself... or others. Just relax...   somewhere quiet... by yourself... and breathe deeply... slowing down each breath... relaxing into yourself... slow and easy... relaxing deeper... into yourself... and when you’re ready... take your mind to some special memory... something that makes you feel so good... and so happy... even though it may have been something long past... you still get that special feeling... just remembering... and your heart fills... with that warm fuzzy feeling of joy and love... and as you feel that special love... let that feeling fill your heart and overflow... expanding out into all the cells of your body... until your whole body fills with love and light... radiating out all around you... protecting you from any negative influences... harmful energy... feel yourself wholly protected...

HOLDING ON


 I managed to do the first 20 minutes with the mike turned off and wondered why I couldn't hear myself through the headphones!  Oh well... we all live and learn!!!!  However, I did manage to get everything in, one way and another... and maybe nobody noticed!

A couple of weeks ago I was talking about LETTING GO... but today I’m thinking about HOLDING ON... which may seem a contradiction... and this should be interesting. I’ll be contributing my thoughts on that... in between the music... which I hope will give you food for thought... make you smile... and most of all lift your spirits...

I think the key is in the timing... there is a time to hold on... and a time to let go... because everything changes... and as it changes it evolves... nothing ever stays the same... and whether we like it or not... we change... hopefully for the better... in our attitudes and aspirations.  So maybe the dream we once had is no longer relevant... so we need to keep renewing our dreams... everything has to evolve... there’s a time for everything...

So Let it be... don’t go against the grain... that’s hard work... but go with the flow... and hold on to the certainty that life has its own cycles... simply trust that all will be revealed... that nature has a harmony that we can’t always comprehend... and when we hold on to trust... we can let go our anxieties and concerns... which have a habit of working out all by themselves...

Yesterday was Independence Day in America... so I’d like to honour those independent souls so many years ago who declared themselves FREE.  The Declaration of Independence... We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
These are noble principles ... but I’m not so sure about the PURSUIT of happiness... it seems to me that principle has led to the materialism that has spread through the western world... and further afield... where money, possessions, luxury and status are thought to bring happiness... rather than the simple pleasures of life.   In my experience... its simpler to find happiness in what we have and whatever we’re doing... rather than pursuing something so elusive as happiness!

So why am I talking about HOLDING ON?  You know how heavy something gets when you hold onto it for some time? Well sometimes we hold on much longer than necessary... and suffer the consequences. And when we hold onto such things as... anxiety... anger... guilt... and fear... we soon lose energy and become fatigued... which can lead to allergies... depression... ME...   and many other illnesses.  And what makes it even worse is when we deny what we’re holding onto... because we’re ashamed to have such feelings... and it becomes our shameful secret... except that we betray what we’re hiding by our behaviour... it has to come out somehow... anyone can see there’s something wrong by the way we live and what we do... maybe over-eating... or drinking too much... smoking or indulging in other substances... and whether you’re a chocoholic or a shopaholic... any addiction is a way to suppress our feelings... to keep them locked away inside... “Keep quiet, Anger... have a smoke.”  “Stop whining, Resentment... take this chocolate cake.” “That’s enough, Guilty secret... here’s a nice drink to take away the pain.” It’s the way they make you feel...
#7        The Way You Make Me Feel... Michael Jackson
You may have heard me talk about EFT before... but if not, I’d like to introduce you to what’s  known as Emotional Freedom Techniques... that’s based on acupuncture points... because it’s a simple way of helping reduce any conflicts in the mind... and any negative emotion... and just doing the tapping helps balance the emotional energy systems of the body.  If you’d like to follow along with me...
·         First identify what you’re feeling... maybe something that you’ve been holding onto for some time?  You know how it makes you feel? And where do you feel it?
·         Focus into your body... and notice any area of tension... pain... or discomfort... How bad is it? On a scale of 0 to 10?  (where 10 is as bad as it can get.)
·         Start tapping the Karate Chop Point... the outer edge of one hand below the little finger... with the fingertips of the other hand... taking a few deep breaths... while you focus on what you’re feeling...
·         Take a deep breath ... then say out loud...
·          Even though I’m feeling... this discomfort...   
·         I completely love and accept myself... I’m doing the best I can..
·         Even though I’m feeling ... this tension... this pain...
·         I accept that it makes me want to... eat... drink... smoke... go shopping... whatever...
·         Even though I always get this feeling when.............................. (whatever happens)
·         I forgive myself for letting this feeling get to me... I’m doing the best I can...
·         WRISTS... inside wrists together... I accept this feeling of.......................
·         Back of hand, below the 3rd ring finger... I accept this feeling of................
·         TOP OF HEAD... this feeling... who needs it?...
·         Collarbone... Chest... (take a long deep breath)... I can decide to take responsibility for my feelings... accept my life... just as it is... ·         Whenever you’re feeling disturbed... or restless... give yourself a break.  Now and then... take a walk in nature... somewhere quiet... by yourself... if you can... or go somewhere beautiful... in your mind... maybe some special memory... or a place where you feel safe... at peace with yourself... breathe deeply... slowing down each breath... relaxing into yourself... noticing whatever you see... or hear... anything you sense... without any judgement... slowing down the mind... all those thoughts whirling around in your mind... just let them float way... like little puffs of smoke... slowing down... relaxing the body... breathing slow and easy... just BEING... with yourself... and notice how that feels... with a peaceful mind... and love in your heart...
Never forget to appreciate those you love... and don’t hold it in... show them by a touch... a word... a great big hug. If you’ve never shown your affection before... you may be surprised at how good it feels... you’ll want to do it again... and again...

So... when we hold onto our innermost values... and the qualities of love and confidence that inspire and motivate our life... we can let go those old fears that sap our energy... and stop us living life to the full...

Hold onto your hopes and dreams... but loosely... like a living thing... give them room to breathe and grow... and sometimes... when they’ve outgrown our capacity to actualise them... let them go... to materialise somewhere else.  We can never actually own anything... eventually we have to let them go and let someone else look after them... that applies not only to material possessions... but also to our family members... parents... children... friends and lovers.  We simply have the privilege of knowing them for a time... it’s all part of life’s rich pattern... as my Granddad used to say. I think I was very lucky to be brought up with such ideas.
