AUTUMN

#          Good Vibrations…
Hello and welcome to Patsy’s Good Vibrations on Radio Glan Clwyd at 10 0’clock this Sunday morning… inviting you to share the next two hours with me... enjoying my choice of music... which sometimes surprises me... and always delights.. HELLO to whoever’s listening in hospital... and to those who may be listening online... WELCOME to you too!
Well… after that last flush of Indian summer… now it really is AUTUMN.  Time to add another layer of clothing… and change the summer duvet for a winter-weight… close the blinds when it gets dark and get cosy round a warm fire… Winter drawers on, as the saying goes…
So I’ve been searching for songs about this time of the year.. and there are quite a few…
# 1       Farwell my Summer Love…  Michael Jackson
I love this time of year... as the trees put on their most brilliant colours before shedding their leaves. There’s an opportunity in getting older that can release us from trying to be what others think we should be... we really don’t have to live up to someone else’s expectations... but just show ourselves as we really are... hopefully...with all the wisdom of our years... in our best colours.  For all those I’ve known and loved… and still love…
#2        When I’m Old and Wise... Alan Parsons Project
Here’s a poem by Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other peoples' gardens
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Love that... and I do wear Purple...
#3        Will You Still Love Me… Amy Winehouse
Age doesn’t really matter... as long as we feel good about ourselves... I think this quote is from the Dalai Lama... “Live a good and honourable life...  then when you get older and think back... you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time”.
#4        Honesty… Billy Joel
Honesty… when we can be honest about who we are… and not try to fit someone else’s idea of who we should be… that avoids a lot of stress… and means we can have a happy life… and above all… keep young at heart…
#5        Young at Heart... Jimmy Durante
Thanks to Jimmy Durante for that good advice… he’s long gone… and even though we may be getting older… and who isn’t?.. we can keep a young attitude… stimulate the mind and exercise the body… because it really is so important to avoid getting lazy… sinking into lethargic habits… and I’m talking to myself here… because we seize up if we don’t keep active… USE IT OR LOSE IT!
How about dancing? You know you can dance wherever you are… even if you can’t get up on your feet… even sitting in a chair or lying in bed… feel your feet start to twitch… your fingers begin to tap the rhythm… do it now…
#6        I Feel like dancing… Leo Sayer
Let your legs move… tap your feet… feel your hips begin to sway… rock your shoulders…  move your arms… that’s it… don’t worry about that person looking at you in a strange way… as if you’re enjoying yourself too much… tell her to get her headphones on…
Are you dancing? You don’t need me to tell you how important it is to keep moving… we just have to keep remembering.
#7        Dancing Queen… ABBA
Now you know we always welcome your requests for a particular record, or a mention of someone or something special... and if you have an interesting or funny story to tell, connected to a special song... we’d love to hear from you.   You can contact Radio Glan Clwyd by phone on 01745-584229... or if you’re here in hospital, on Extension 4360, or ask one of the volunteers going around the wards. And you can also listen online at... www.rygc.co.uk
And talking about Autumn today…
#8        Forever Autumn… Justin Hayward CD
That song reflects a little melancholy and nostalgia that we inevitably feel as summer ends… and as we get older and realise our life is winding down… often losing friends and loved ones… but ‘that’s all part of life’s rich pattern’… as my Granddad used to say… and he kept active into his nineties!
There are so many beautiful songs about autumn... bitter-sweet memories that we hoard like old photographs... recalling all the happy times we’ve had... as well as the sad.  So for all of us who were looking forward to sharing our autumn years with someone we love… but find that life isn’t working out that way… Ce’st la vie…  and for those who’ve found love late in life… ENJOY!   I know I’m a month late with this one…
#9        September song... Sinatra
I often pay a visit to Bodnant Gardens in the Conwy valley... such a beautiful place... at this time of year the colours of the flowers are so vivid and the trees are beginning to turn. There may be a cool wind but it’s well worth a visit at any time...
#10      The Autumn… Nat King Cole
Nat King Cole... what a voice.  But Autumn is not a time to dwell on the past...  because this is the time to bring in the harvest... to reap the rewards... traditionally the time to stock up supplies for the coming winter... and sowing the seed for next year’s crop… preparing for the cycle of new life... whatever that may bring...
#11      Harvest for the World... Isley Brothers
As we get older we can  appreciate everything we’ve learned along the way… that contribute to the wisdom of our years… and that’s important for the younger generation… that they see us as generous and forgiving… instead of bitter and unforgiving… which can happen when emotional hurts are not processed and let go…
So how are you feeling?  A little stressed or uncomfortable?  Ok… how about a little relaxation…
#12      Autumn in New York… (from movie) Gabriel Yared  (fade… )
RELAXATION…
Some cultures regard this time of year as the beginning of the new year... and so we come full circle... with another chance to do what we really want to do... learning from the past... with no regrets...
#13      No Regrets... Edith Piaf
My belief is that what doesn’t kill me... makes me stronger... learning how to deal with difficult  situations... so that next time... it’ll be different... everything will turn out better... Just imagine...
#14      Imagine… John Lennon
TIME: 59.47... NEWS INTRO...
NEWS…           NEWS OUTRO…

You’re listening to Patsy’s Good Vibrations… with music to bring back happy memories… and talking about things that inspire me and hopefully give you food for thought…
Now here’s a very determined woman who knows what she wants... in the character of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl... one of my favourite old movies...
#15      Don’t Rain on my Parade... Barbra Streisand
Those of you who’ve heard my show before will know that I usually give an introduction to EFT... that’s Emotional Freedom Techniques… and the whole point of doing this is to FREE yourself of any emotions that still make you feel disturbed about yourself or anyone else.
So now I’d like you to think about what you’d like to let go... any emotional feelings... of disappointment... frustration... anger... resentment… whatever you feel. Now rate that feeling on a scale of 0 to 10... 10 being the very worst feeling you can get. (Write down the number if you can... and name that feeling.)
Start by tapping the fleshy side of your hand... below the little finger... we call that the Karate Chop... and take a long deep breath. Keep tapping and say out loud... if you can..
Even though I’ve been feeling .... frustrated with my life…
I accept myself with all my feelings..
Even though I’ve been  feeling ...resentful...  angry... whatever…
I deeply and completely love myself anyway…
Even though I’ve been feeling... shameful or guilty... for something I may or may not have done… it’s not my fault…
I forgive myself for anything I’ve done to hurt myself or others… and I’d like to forgive others who may have hurt me… whether intentionally or not…
Take another deep breath... and now we start tapping around the face..
1st point... right between the eyebrows... just above the nose... tap with 3-4 fingers... and say... this feeling of… resentment… anger… guilt… whatever…
2nd point... at the side of the eye right on the corner... either side... and say... I’ve been feeling this for so long…
3rd point... under the eye on the cheekbone... this feeling of…
4th point... right under the nose... it’s nobody’s fault…
5th point... in the cleft of the chin right under the lip... this feeling of…
6th point... collarbone... at the top of the chest... it’s not my fault…
7th point...  under arm… at the side of the ribs… this feeling of…
8th point…  top of head... and say... This feeling of....... who needs it? maybe I could just choose to let it go... because I want to feel lighter…
Take note now of how that feeling might have changed.  Has the number gone up or down?
You can repeat that any time on your own… or while we play the next track… so just let go of all that dead weight… and ENJOY what’s left of your life!
You know that angels can fly because they take things lightly.
Thinking about the colours of autumn... I came across this...
# 16     Colour of the Wind… Jack Jones
When I see the colours of Autumn… makes me want to get out and paint…
#17      Colours… Donovan
It’s been a long time since I heard Donovan… I like that…and here’s another one…
#18      True Colours… Cyndie Lauper
When we show our true colours… when we live a genuine life… then life really is simpler…
# 19     Wind beneath my wings... Gladys Knight
I’ve been reflecting on how we describe our feelings... our moods... in colours... ‘seeing red... green with envy... yellow (to describe cowardice )... in a black mood... feeling blue...’
# 20     Don’t it make my Brown Eyes Blue… Crystal Gayle
And we have a request… from Julie and Phil.. who’d like to hear Purple Haze from Jimmy Hendrix… following the theme of colours… only I can’t find it… so hope this is a good substitute…
#21      Purple Rain… Prince
How we love to talk about the weather... and whatever happens... rain, storm or snow,  we like to stay...
# 22     On the Sunny Side of the Street… Peggy Lee
When we see the sunny side… and the funny side of things… we really do become a little ray of sunshine… that can brighten up the gloomiest person… because happiness is catching… and we can always love…
#23      Come Rain or Come Shine… Toto
Don’t forget that we always welcome your requests for a particular record, or a mention of someone or something special... and if you have an interesting or funny story to tell, connected to a special song... we’d love to hear from you.   You can contact Radio Glan Clwyd by phone on 01745-584229... or if you’re here in hospital, on Extension 4360, or ask one of the volunteers going around the wards. And you can also listen online at... www.rygc.co.uk
And if you joined in with the EFT and would like to know more about it… you can find it online… lots of information there… or drop me a line here at the Studio in Glan Clwyd
#24      Time Was… June Christy
Time was… life often seemed to be easier… looking back… but if we’re really honest… was it really?  Maybe we were more innocent… or naïve… and simply didn’t notice problems so much… when we were young…
#25      Please Don’t Talk About me When I’m Gone… Cleo Laine
I’ll drink to that! Only if you remember nice things about me… but as far as I’m concerned…
#26      Anything Goes… Tony Bennett
#27      When I Grow Too Old To Dream… Nat King Cole
My time today is coming to an end and I’d like to thank you all for accompanying me on this journey today and I trust you’ve enjoyed my take on Life, the Universe and Everything... I’ll be back next Sunday morning at 10.0’clock… for another journey in music and song, when maybe you’ll be able to join me again... and this is Patsy Wynne signing off for today... from Radio Glan Clwyd...  and remember... Always look on the bright side of life...
