Out and About in Bien Hoa

The last week or so has been busy; being Mark's personal assistant means keeping hold of the various threads of his life, both professional and personal, which help he badly needs!

However, he does take time off to go out... lunch with student Helen who's introduced us to a Buddhist vegetarian eating place where we get a large plateful of rice with assorted veg, tofu and various other strange items, which are definitely not meat or fish. Also included is the usual bowl of clear broth of green vegetables.
Being an ordinary roadside eating place, it's very cheap so we eat there regularly, which is actually more economical than cooking at home. Helen on the right with her room-mate.
Preparing food... on the floor!

Crossing the Dong Nai River.
The other day we went for a drive into the countryside, following the Dong Nai River, which we glimpsed briefly through riverside factories, brickworks and sand extraction plants.

It was good to get away from the polluted air of Bien Hoa for a couple of hours and see green fields and trees again on roads that were not too busy, although laden lorries thunder along all the roads around here.

That's not to say that Bien Hoa doesn't have any trees, as shown by the very attractive riverside garden walk pictured at the beginning, which we only recently discovered.

I love the photo of the woman preparing food at ground level -- reminds me of one of my favorite movies, "Scent of Green Papaya," and of how flexible bodies can be!
